Obituary
Mrs. Betty Ann Gay Dawson, age 79, died Sunday morning, January 16th, 2022 at her home. Born July 9, 1942 in Pitt County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of William Lawrence Gay and Betty Ford Gay.

A loving mother, grandmother, and sister, Betty was devoted to her family and enjoyed working in her yard growing plants. Prior to her retirement, she had worked in the grocery business for many years and retired from Walmart in Kinston after 25 years.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Randolph "Randy" Edwards; and a granddaughter, Tuesdae Summerlin.

Her surviving family includes her husband of seven years, Edward Dawson whom cared for Betty and brought companionship to her life; her children, Debra Shackelford of Greenville, Belinda Ellis (Marshall) of Snow Hill, and Kim Grady (Tommy) of Kinston; grandchildren, Chad Ellis (Wendy), Joe Ellis, Amy Ellis (Curt), Will Ellis, Austin Shackelford (Jordan), Caleb Grady and Gavin Grady; 8 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lynn Gay Hobbs (Kenny) of Farmville; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held graveside 2 PM Wednesday, January 19th, at the Edwards Family Cemetery (1982 Free Gospel Road) with Reverend Greg Nethercutt officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service and other times at the residence.
