Obituary
Mr. Benjamin Charles "Ben" Jones, 80, passed away Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Wayne UNC Hospital. Born in Lenoir County on February 15, 1941, he was the son of Marvin and Layune Wilson Jones. In addition to his parents, Ben was preceded in death by brothers, James Gardner Jones and Marvin Jackson Jones.
Ben was a member of the Jason Presbyterian Church and had retired from EI Dupont after 36 years of service. Ben was an avid UNC TarHeel fan and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf and cards with his friends. Meticulous by nature, he was known for keeping his home and yard in pristine condition.
His surviving family includes his wife of 60 years, Margaret Clemmons Jones; a son, Tony Jones of Fort Lauderdale, FL; a sister, Ruth J. Jernigan of Burlington; special children Ben considered as his grandchildren, Mary Gray Hardy, Emma Scott Hardy and Sutton Hardy; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to acknowledge and give a special thanks to Tammy Harrison and husband Jeff, Gary Mewborn, and Skip Morris for their love and support during Ben's sickness.
Funeral services will be held graveside 12 PM Wednesday, January 26th, at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston with Pastor Scott Hardy officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service and other times at the home.
Mr. Jones will lie-in-state on Monday and Tuesday from 8 AM to 4 PM at Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service. Flowers are welcome or memorials are encouraged to Jason Presbyterian Church c/o Belinda H.
