Bruce R. (Smitty ) Smith of Hearthstone Dr. passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, January 17, 2022 surrounded by beloved family after a brave and long hard fought battle with cancer.

He was born on November 26, 1935, to Ruth E. Smith of Springfield, MA.

Above anything Bruce's family and friends were first and foremost in his life. Most of the time becoming the life of any gathering, the love of providing a laugh and telling jokes was pure joy to him. At the same time, he was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His generosity and compassion for others only grew as the years went on.

Bruce worked for many years in the Hobby and Model Railroad Industry. He was promoted to President of the Floquil-Polly S Corporation while at the same time serving as Vice President of Mohawk Finishing Corporation based in Amsterdam, NY. Both a division of RPM Inc. He was awarded the rank of Vice President on the Model Railroad Industry Association board of trustees.

Bruce eventually ventured out on his own and started Saratoga Sales and Marketing where he was a successful sales representative and consultant for numerous tool, electrical and IT supply companies. Humbly, over the years he was recognized and received many awards for breaking national sales records. He continued to work and do what he loved until his health took a turn in November 2021. Having to retire was something he just did not know how to do and broke his heart. Hard work was all he knew.

Meeting as teenagers, after throwing gum in her hair at Riverside Skate Park, he married the love of his life Agnes (Aggie) Maharne on April 12, 1958 at St. Mary's church in Springfield MA. Bruce and Aggie loved to travel and were fortunate enough to feast on many different cuisines from numerous countries. They enjoyed flying to the West Coast in addition to Las Vegas. Sharing experiences and creating memories with Aggie was one of his greatest joys in life.

One of his favorite pastimes was to stuff face with family and friends. Whether it was steak slathered in butter or fresh lobster and seafood platters at Petey's in New Hampshire, food was something he truly loved. If there was a national shortage of butter, it was more than likely Bruce was the cause.

He loved spending time on the New England coast, especially in New Hampshire with family and friends.

Known as "Troutman" to the neighborhood kids, Bruce was an avid fly fisherman spending many hours in the Ausable River and used his own hand tied fly's called "Noellies" which were made from the fur of the pet cat, Noel. Nothing made him more proud than to bring home a string of trout for Aggie to clean and prep for dinner.

His pride and heart overflowed when speaking of his daughter Donna and grandsons Michael and Christopher.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife Aggie, daughter Donna (Smith) Rios of Gansevoort. Grandsons Michael Bruce Rios of Ballston Lake NY and Christopher Michael Rios of Melbourne FL. He also leaves behind many sister and brother in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

He will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him. We hope he is finally fishing with his buddies.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Wilton Emergency Inc. 1 Harran Ln, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

A celebration of Bruce's life will be held in the Spring, at the convenience of the family.
