Artist. He was a Swedish image artist. He studied drawing early for Wolf Pagrotsky, and after military duty, in 1944 began studies under Nils Wedel. In 1947 he was accepted at the famous Valand School of Art. His main inspirations were cubism and surrealism. His first exhibitions were in the early 1940s and these continued throughout the decade. In 1953 at Galleri Blanche in Stockholm some of his work in graphics and oils was purchased by the National Museum of Sweden. In 1955 he exhibited internationally and in 1958 he had his first solo show, and had another in Stockholm in 1964. In 1960 he had had the Guggenheim International Award and his work was shown all over the United States. In 1964 and 1965 his art was exhibited in the Soviet Union and in Japan, and his work is represented at three of Sweden's most prestigious museums. He taught art at Valand and other schools 1963 to 1966. He kept working in various other genres and exhibited as late as 2014. He was also an expert on pre-adhesive mail and published one book on that and two major works on art. Erland Brand was a second cousin of artists Per Åhlin and Lars Ridderstedt. He was married to textile artist Inga Brand and they had a son and a daughter.
