Steven Brooks Shoemaker, 45, of Salem, beloved husband, father, son and brother passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2007, at his home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 16, 1962, in St. Johns, Mich. He worked in the health care field after completing service in the military. Steven most recently worked for Avante Nursing Home in Roanoke. He was a devoted nurse to his patients and very devoted to his family. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Amy Melinda Shoemaker; daughter, Whitney Danielle Graham; son, Hunter Brooks Shoemaker; parents, Jerry and Colleen Shoemaker; two brothers, Jim Shoemaker and wife, Noelene and Bruce Shoemaker and wife, Rhonda; sister-in-law, Terri Spring and husband, Rick; brother-in-law, Bo Graham and wife, Bunny; mother and father-in-law, Ruth and Gaston Shell; nephews, Ryan, Zachary, Brady, Cody and Jamie; and nieces, Madeline, Anna and Keli. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 30, 2007, from the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son. Interment will take place on Monday morning, December 31, 2007 at East Hill Cemetery in Salem. The family will receive friends Saturday evening, December 29, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
