She was a longtime resident of Chattooga County with her husband, William Penn Selman, Jr. (aka) "Billie Penn". Pat was the first of two daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Edwin McManus, and graduated from Athens High School. Pat and Bill were married on Feb. 20, 1953 while attending the University of Georgia, and this union produced four sons, William Penn Selman III and spouse JoAnn, Tom Hill Selman II and spouse Juanita, Charles McManus Selman and spouse Maggie, and John Penn Selman and spouse Debronia.
Pat was a member of the CHI Omega Sorority at the University of Georgia and later graduated from Berry College in 1969 with a degree in elementary education. She taught at both Summerville and Trion schools where she pioneered the Special Education program. Pat had a family home in Pennville, "The Penn Place", which is listed on the Registry of Historical Places and was recognized by the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservations. She was a longtime member of the William Marsh Chapter of the D.A.R. and was passionate about her antique collecting hobby. Pat retired from teaching in 1978 and opened Penn Place Antiques and was a key sponsor of the 1988 re-enactment of the Battle of Chickamauga. Along with a special committee she was a driving force in the creation of the Chattooga County Historical Society. Surviving are her sister, Marsha Edens, Bennettsville, S.C., several nieces and nephews and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be held (graveside only) at 11 a.m. Jan. 25 at the family plot at the Summerville Cemetery.
