William David Orr, Jr., 78, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2021 in his Mount Vernon home. David was born on October 08, 1943 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to William David Orr, Sr. and Emma Lewis Orr.
David was a graduate of Butner High School in Shawnee. He went onto graduate from Oklahoma State University where he received his degree in Geology and served in the Texas Army National Guard. David met and married the love of his life Sheryl Lynn Stricklen on March 31, 1967 in Wewoka, Oklahoma. They moved their family to Mount Vernon, Texas in 1972. He was a civil engineer working as an industrial construction supervisor with Brown and Root, then later Austin Industrial until his retirement in 2005.
David was passionate about racing whether it was boats or hot rods. He passed his love of cars onto his sons who raced with him for many years. He was a longtime member of the National Hot Rod Association. In his later years when he could no longer race he began restoring classic cars.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Jason Scott Orr.
David is survived by his loving wife, Sheryl Orr, sons, William Christopher Orr and wife, Cristy all of Mount Vernon; David Michael Orr; three grandchildren, Michael Scott Orr, Kaden Wyatt Orr and Taylor Scott Weems; two sisters, Kay Smith of Stillwater, Oklahoma and Mary Fuxa of Marshall, Oklahoma.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday, November 27, 2021 from 2:30pm to 3:30pm at Collvins Memorial Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held at 4:00pm at Rockhill Cemetery near Mount Vernon, Texas.
