He was one of at least 12 siblings: John James McHale, Norah/Onnie/Honor Maria McHale, Richard McHale, Margaret (McHale) McHale, Patrick McHale, Mary M. (McHale) McDonnell, Henry Joseph McHale, Peter McHale, Martin McHale, Annie Kate (McHale) Periet, Bridget (McHale) Brogan and Francis McHale. He met and married Catherine Gannon in NYC on 27 March 1932. Together they had at least five children: Catherine Marie (McHale) Tully, Patricia Anna (McHale) Boras, Josephine (McHale) Nolan, Eleanor Rita (McHale) Montesano and Richard J. McHale.
