Kathleen Rosemary Scharer, was born December 18, 1929, in Grand Rapids, Michigan to the late Clarence and Florence Scharer. Kathleen attended Piedmont Bible College and earned a BA in Education from Michigan State University. For most of her life she called Montrose her home, where she taught first grade for 26 years. She attended Fellowship Baptist Church in Clio. Kathleen was a lover of gardening, sewing, camping, music, and family gatherings. She enjoyed reading, journaling, playing hymns on the piano, and was always a soft touch for furry creatures. Kathleen was known for her spunky, adventurous spirit and can-do attitude. Her door was always open, and all who knew her were blessed by her contagious laughter and joy.
Kathleen accepted Jesus as her Savior at an early age and followed Christ all the days of her life. She served alongside her husband in ministry and was a genuine prayer warrior: facing every challenge with tenacity and determination. Her strength in the midst of heartache made her an anchor for her family. Kathleen embraced the gift of longevity by living out her commitment to "joy on the journey" to the end. Small in physical stature but mighty in faith, she leaves an indelible footprint in the lives of all who knew her.
Surviving are: Children, James L. (Brenda) Cahours, Rebecca (Christopher) Vennesland, Sharon (Timothy) Harmer, Tabitha (Stephen) Meglich and Ruth Cavell; 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren; Brothers, Arthur (Priscilla) Scharer, David (Elaine) Scharer, and Gene (Vickie) Scharer; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Joyce, and her late husbands James G. Cahours and Delmer Rutherford.
