Born in Troy on February 20, 1948, son of the late Edward and Marie Kirkpatrick, he was a graduate of Schuylerville High School.
Jim was drafted into the US Navy shortly after high school and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He was stationed aboard the USS Belknap(DLG26) as a Sonar Technician and honorably discharged in 1972.
Jim worked as a Mechanic for Jack Byrne Ford for over 30 years. He later worked for Morris Ford and Monroe Muffler in Malta before retiring this past year.
He was a former member of the Old Saratoga Rod and Gun Club.
He also enjoyed fishing and reading and was a diehard NY Giants fan. He also loved attending the Albany/Saratoga Speedway on Friday nights. Above all else, Jim was most proud of his children and grandchildren and cherished the time he was able to spend with them.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Marjorie "Marge" Garmley Kirkpatrick, son Edward (The late Denise) Kirkpatrick, daughters Amy VanArnum, Danielle (Nicholas) Wood, and Brittany Kirkpatrick (Johnathon Delude), former son in law Zach VanArnum, grandchildren Megan, Zachary, Lucas, Hailey, Casey, Paige, Alexis and Morgan, sister Penny Kirkpatrick, and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother Alan.
Military honors and burial for Jim will be held at the Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville, NY 12871.
