Avis Hoerning
Former Beaverhead County elected official Avis Hoerning, 64, died Friday at the Dillon hospital. She became ill at her summer cabin at Elkhorn Hot Springs.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 10:30 in Brundage Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Warren Smith officiating. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery.
Mrs. Hoerning was born July 10, 1923, to Bannack pioneers Edwin and Sadie Underwood.
She worked for the J. W. Walters Garage for 20 years and later for Howard Motors, both in Dillon.
She was first elected to the office of Beaverhead County public administrator, and later served two terms as county treasurer.
Her husband, Lester Hoerning, died in 1961.
She was active in Beaverhead Senior Citizens and was serving on its board of directors.
Survivors include three sons and three daughters-in-law of Dillon; a daughter and son-in-law of Dillon; sisters, June Andreason of Salmon, Idaho, and Lila Davis of Arizona; and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the Heart Fund or the Beaverhead Ambulance Fund.
