Rose Mary Smith was born on June 17, 1948 and departed this world to take her place in Heaven on January 15, 2022.

Rose was the beloved wife of Claude "Bo" Smith for many years. The two had just recently celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on December 31st. They were best friends, creating a life of love, family, and friends in Branchland, WV, their home for many years. Rose and Bo had a love that endured and lasted throughout the trials and tribulations of life, and they remained lovingly married through it all.

Rose was the daughter of the late George and Viola Herold, born and raised on a farm in Inman, Nebraska. She earned an Associate's degree in business and spent most of her life working for Lincoln County Schools. She was proud of her roots and upbringing.

Rose was preceded in death by her only child, a daughter, Tammy Rose (Todd) Lucas who she loved dearly. Siblings: Anna May Stamp, late Georgia (late Varner) Hike, late Leo (late Alice) Herold, late Kay (Logan) Collins, and Charles Harold, as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Maw Rose, as she was most notably known, left behind so many loved ones and dear friends. She was a loving and precious grandmother to her only grandson, Austin Todd (Shayla) Lucas, who adored her. Rose also had a special "bonus" grandson, Tylor Lucas. Most recently she became the great grandmother to Austin and Shayla's only daughter, Mallory Blake Lucas. Rose dreamed of spending time with a great grandbaby and hearing the "pitter-patter," as she called it, of little feet running through her home. She was blessed with that opportunity, if only for a little while. Rose leaves behind many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that were like family to her.

She was a devoted Christian and enjoyed worshipping in various churches in her local community throughout the years. Rose was a selfless woman that loved her family eternally and whole-heartedly, always putting everyone else's needs above her own, knowing family is the most precious gift on earth. Her warm heart, soft voice, and kind soul will be missed in this world, along with all her smiles, laughs, and "grins."

Funeral service will be 11:00A.M., Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Koontz Funeral Home in Hamlin, Wv with Pastor Lonnie Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Franklin Cemetery in Branchland, WV.
