A Lawrence High School junior died Sunday after the car he was driving slid on a patch of ice and crashed broadside into a utility pole, police said today.

Travis Kyle Hale, 18, was southbound on Kasold about 5:50 p.m. when the 1984 BMW he was driving hit a section of ice that had accummulated from melting snow at Kasold and Tomahawk in northwest Lawrence.

Services for Kyle Hale, 18, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mustard Seed Christian Fellowship. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

He died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1993, at Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan., following a one-car accident near Kasold and Tomahawk in Lawrence.

He was born Jan. 18, 1975, in Lawrence. He was a lifelong resident of Lawrence. He attended Riverside Elementary School, played football and was a member of the choir at West Junior High School. He was a junior at Lawrence High School at the time of his death.

He worked during the summer at Alvamar Golf Course. His hobby was fishing.

He attended Mustard Seed Christian Fellowship.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Wilma and Randy Wright of the home in Lawrence; a brother, Thad Hale, also of the home; his father, Harold Hale, Kansas City, Mo.; his grandmothers, Frances Pilgram, Kansas City, Mo., and Cheryl Norton, Lawrence; and his grandfathers, Dale Norton, Lawrence, and Wendell Wright,
