On Friday, January 14, 2022, Maria de Jesus "Chuy" Vargas Guerra, loving wife and mother, passed away at the age of 97. She was born July 16, 1924 in Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico to her father, Ricardo Vargas and her mother, Maria Concepcion Ortega Vargas. She was the youngest of three children.

Maria de Jesus was a beautiful woman who taught her children and grandchildren the values and traits they continue to live by today. She had the greatest sense of humor and a real zest for life. She never missed a chance to dance, sing or laugh. She was a homemaker, an incredible cook and a sharer of her own unique wisdom. But most of all, she loved her family endlessly.

Maria de Jesus lived in Tampico and then in Valles, SLP, Mexico until the age of 18 when she moved to live with her sister in Tamazunchale, SLP, Mexico. That was where she met the love of her life, Luciano "Chano" Guerra, who she married on March 6, 1944. They started a family and continued to live in Tamazunchale until they moved to Mission, Texas in 1956. They raised five children.

Maria de Jesus was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her sisters Maria Concepcion "Concha" Vargas Martinez and Carmen Vargas. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Juan and Esther Trevino Guerra, Bertha Guerra Puig, Hilda and Jack Edwards, Crisanta and Robert Lozano and Luciano and Vicki Knoblock Guerra, her 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 21, 2022 at Funeraria Del Angel, Chapel of Serenity from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a prayer service at 6:00 pm. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Funeraria Del Angel at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mission.
