He is survived by his three children: William "Bill" (Bev Teter) Brown, 68, from Huntsville, AL; Susan Pond (Eric, deceased) Siess, 66, from San Pedro, CA; and Jeffrey Joe (Joy) Brown, 53, from Lebanon, OH; three grandchildren: Liliana Pond (Wyatt) Miller, 25; Matthew Emerson Brown, 18; and Holly Lou Ann Brown, 15.
Joe graduated from Liberty High School in 1943. Following high school, Joe joined the Navy. He was a radioman during WWII and an elite member of the Navy Choir, known as the Blue Jacket Choir. He loved music and enjoyed tickling the ivories, entertaining friends and family with piano tunes from the 1940s. Joe was active in amateur radio throughout his life, and a member of the QCWA (Quarter Century Wireless Association). His call sign was WB8MSJ. Joe was also a lifelong farmer. He started out working with his father, on Brown's Modern Dairy.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00pm on Friday, January 14, 2022 at Elm Grove Cemetery. Pastor Hugh Bowland will officiate. A reception will be held after the service at Powell Memorial United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00pm on Friday, January 14, 2022 at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home in Findlay.
