Marie Martin Upchurch, 95, of West Frankfort, formerly of Herrin, passed away 2:11 a.m. Saturday, January 15, 2022 at SIH Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

Marie formerly worked for the Kroger Store in Benton and Bracy Grocery in West Frankfort.

Marie was a member of the West Monroe Apostolic Church in Herrin. She formerly attended the Jesus Only Church in Herrin and Glad Tidings Pentecostal Church in West Frankfort.

Marie was born August 5, 1926 in Brookland, Arkansas to Clement and Florence Mae (Robbins).

Marie was united in marriage with Rolla Monroe Martin on February 22, 1942 in Mississippi. He preceded her in death on July 13, 1980. She then married Walter Lee Upchurch on November 8, 2000 in Crossville, TN. He preceded her in death on April 3, 2010.

Surviving is her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Rev. Tim Dame of Herrin; eight grandchildren, Michelle Heath of Pittsburg, Todd Heath of Herrin, Matthew (Ann) Heath of Crainville, Karen Heather Heath of West Frankfort, Shawn (Carol) Baldi of West Frankfort, Jimmy (Tiffany) Baldi of Marion, Monica Dunbar and Elijah Thompson of Carbondale, Crystal (Chris) Haught of Herrin; nineteen great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; sister, Nancy Summers of West Frankfort and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; daughter and son-in-law, Diana Kay "Katie" and John Heath; parents; two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Myrtle Gray, LaCleda and Rev. Don McCool and John Summers; three brothers, Gandy Odle, Arnold Odle and an infant brother, Johnny Odle.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 21, 2022 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Johnny Odle officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022 and from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 2022 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home. Burial will be in East Fork Cemetery at West Frankfort.
