Local sports lost a vast reservoir of institutional knowledge and genuine decency when Mike Neville died on Thursday, January 13, 2022. The hardest-working man in local sports suffered a massive heart attack on Friday, December 17, 2021, and finally succumbed to complications on Thursday, January 13, 2022, at his home in Fredericksburg.

Mike graduated high school at Alfred Almond Central School in Almond, New York in 1976. While attending broadcasting school, he worked at a Maryland radio station.

After moving to Virginia, he worked at WPWC, AM 1480 in Dumfries as a DJ and host of the Saturday morning sports program covering local high school scores and stories. He did play by play announcing for local high school basketball and football games on the station and also handled play by play announcing for the low level Class A Potomac Cannons baseball games that were broadcast on WPWC.

He later worked as a dispatcher for Prince William County. He continued his broadcasting career, becoming the Sports Director for a Fredericksburg cable TV station, CV3 Prestige/Adelphia/ Comcast, where he was a one man show covering all local sports at the area high schools and Mary Washington College Sports. Mike interviewed the local high school athletes, always giving them a chance to be in the spotlight.

He was a radio personality for Telemedia Broadcasting, WGRX/ WGRQ, web announcer for the Richmond Kickers, and, web announcer for VCU baseball, basketball, and soccer. He covered racing, both at Old Dominion Speedway and Dominion Raceway. Mike served as web announcer for The University of Mary Washington's volleyball games; and was the voice of The University of Mary Washington's Men's and Women's Basketball. Mike also helped produce videos for the University of Mary Washington's annual spring athletic banquet.

He was the emcee for shows at Mr.B's Park, Patriot Park, Eagles Lodge, and other venues. He hosted his own 2-hour gospel show, Stained Glass Reflections, Sunday mornings on Thunder 104.5 featuring local artists and bands. He was a sports writer for the Stafford Sun, and DJ'd music for many weddings and other events. Later he formed his own sports production company, MHN Productions. Mike also did deliveries for Fisher Auto Parts. He wore many hats, and excelled in all of them.

"No matter how you knew Mike, you know he never met a stranger, loved to talk sports and loved to play golf on Tuesdays," wrote Tom Cooper, general manager of radio stations Super Hits 95.9 WRGQ/Thunder 104.5, the stations that Mike was working at for many years, on a GoFundMe page that quickly surpassed the goal for covering Mike Neville's medical expenses.

Mike's family included his wife of 38 years, Sharon; children Amber Vences (Armando), Megan Morales, Ian Neville and Courtney Stephens (Darren); his five grandchildren, Dixie, Mckenzie, Mariah Stephens, Lorenzo Stephens, and Malachi Stephens; brother A.J Neville (Cindy); and sister Mary Libby (Dana). He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Marion Neville; and brother Bart Neville. Paul and Marion Nevile are buried at Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, Virginia.

Visitation was held on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at Covenant Funeral Home, Fredericksburg, Virginia. Services were held on Friday, January 21, 2022, 10:30 am, at St. Jude Catholic Church, Fredericksburg, Virginia. Burial that afternoon at Oak Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg, Virginia.
