Air Minister Loses Brother
QUEBEC, July 8 -- (CP) --
W. Gerard Power, 58, former member of the Quebec Legislative Council and a brother of Air Minister Power, died tonight from injuries suffered last Tuesday in an automobile accident here. Mr. Power's condition at first was not believed critical, but it took a turn for the worse last night and he was administered the last rites of the Roman Catholic Church.
He was born in nearby Sillery in 1882 and was a member of a family long prominent in Quebec and Dominion politics. His father, William Power, was a political disciple of Sir Wilfred Laurier and sat for many years in the Canada House of Commons, while a second brother, Joseph, was long a member of Quebec's Legislative Assembly. Mr. Power was a former chairman of the Quebec Harbor Commission and a former member of Quebec City's Catholic School Commission. He was educated at the Comericial Academy here and at Mount St. Louis College in Montreal. he was connected with several lumber companies, and from 1919 to 1920 was chairman of the Canadian Lumbermen's Association.
In 1904 he married Marie Lafleur of Bryson, Que., and they had four sons and four daughters. Mr. Power sat in Qubec's Upper House in 1923 and 1924 for Stadacona division. He was interested in many sports and was a former president of the International Dog Sled Derby here.
He is survived by his widow, three daughters, Miss Sheila and Mrs. Jules Landry of Quebec, and Mrs. Eileen Mcagy, of Halifax, and four sons, William, Major Gaven Power, Lieut. Douglas Power and Lieut. Lorne G. Power, all of Quebec.
