College Basketball Coach. He was long-time coach for the University of Kentucky from 1972 to 1985. He was hired by Aldoph Rupp to which the arena is named in Lexington. He coached teams to many titles: one NCAA Division I (1978), 3 NCAA Division I Regional—Final Four (1975, 1978, 1984), one NIT (1976), one MIAA regular season (1965) eight SEC titles (1973, 1975, 1977, 1978, 1980, 1982–1984) and one SEC Tournament (1984). He received awards of National Coach of the Year and four SEC Coach of the Year awards. He had a thoroughbred horse farm after retiring from coaching.
