Robert B. Gross 79, formerly of Dunning Road in Canisteo, passed away Saturday (Jan. 8, 2022) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Born in Abbington, PA., February 4, 1942 he was the son of Francis H. and Ruth Mousley Gross. He was a graduate of Towanda High School, and was a resident of Avoca for 20 years before moving to Canisteo. He has resided in Hornell the past 3 years.
Bob proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army for 12 years followed by 14 years in the United States Army Ready Reserve where he was a drill sergeant. He served during the Vietnam Era and Desert Storm. He had been employed following his retirement from the military for Morrison Knudsen, TTA, Walmart, and ATM in Hornell, Foster Wheeler in Dansville, and ADtrans in Elmira.

He was a member of the Hornell VFW where he served on the board. Most of Bob's leisure time was spent on his favorite hobby, fishing, but he also loved spending time with his family and many friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, his sister; Judy Gross, and his brothers; Fred and Larry Gross.
Surviving are his wife; Mary Semans Gross, three daughters; Sue Andrushyn of South Carolina, Patricia "Tish" Wood of Elmira, and Pamela (Wendell) Davis of Hornell, two sons; Stacy (Theresa) Gross of Painted Post and Michael (Wendy) Chace of Hornell, two sisters; Linda Snyder of Drums PA., and June Dutcher of Winter Haven Florida, special niece; Waneta Marple and great nephew and fishing buddy; James (Jimmy) Marple, 10 Grandchildren; Haylie Gross, Leighanna Gross, Katie Jenkins, Krystle (Mike) Malm , Joseph Townsend, Allexys Townsend, Joshua Chace, Olivia Chace, Elijah Chace, Kezia Chace, ten great grandchildren; Matilda Hildebrand, Payton Chace, Lincoln Malm, Annabelle Townsend, Scarlett Townsend, Apollo Chace, Rhylee Northrop, Tayler Northrop, Jamie-Lynn Northrop and Emberly Wattts, many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will be present to receive friends on Monday (Jan. 17, 2022) at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo Street in Hornell from 1 PM until 4 PM where funeral services will follow at 4 PM. Rev. Lawrence Semans and Rev. David Semans will officiate. Burial with military honors will be held at the Bath National Cemetery.
