Ruby Jean Poteet Ely, of Jonesville, VA, was born on April 8, 1932, and went to be with her heavenly Father on January 13, 2022. She attended Victory Freewill Baptist Church. Ruby Jean was a housewife, a mother, and a grandmother. She enjoyed crocheting and cooking. She loved to cook food for the farmhands and most of them would work on the farm just to eat her food.
She was preceded in her death by her parents, Harvey and Lily Mae (Quinley) Poteet; husband, Earl Ely, daughter, Linda Ely, and son, Larry Ely.
Ruby Jean is survived by her daughter, Reba Nelson, sons, Roger (Deb) Ely and Garry (Crystal) Ely, all of Jonesville; grandchildren Wesley (Brittney) Nelson of Pennington Gap, Kelley (Brad) Kinder of Cedar Bluff, Madison Ely, Jacob Ely, and Jayden Ely, all of Jonesville; great grandchildren, Presley Nelson, Paisley Nelson, and Lily Kinder. She is also survived by one brother, Palmer Poteet of Church Hill, TN; niece Connie (Marvin) Christian of Church Hill, TN; many great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Robinette Funeral Home in Jonesville, VA. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Don Jones and Chuck Cress officiating. Graveside services will follow at Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway.
Pallbearers will be Adam Pennington, Wesley Nelson, Brad Kinder, Dennis Allen, Jr., Jordan Bruner, and Don Moritz.
