Gloria Jean Jones (Spicer) was born December 21, 1954, to Warren and Elaine (Nielsen) Spicer at St. John's Hospital in Huron, SD. She was baptized at Sunbeam Congregational Church, rural St. Lawrence. She grew up on the Spicer farm north of Wessington. She attended country school through the second grade at Brown School, Hand County. After that she attended school in Wessington and graduated in 1973. Gloria was a member of Tipton Community Church and was active in 4-H.

Gloria attended Lake Area Vo-Tech in Watertown, earning a degree in Cosmetology. She was employed at hair salons in Miller and Huron.

In the fall of 1977, she moved to Redfield and worked at the South Dakota State School. On April 5, 1981, Gloria married David Jones at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Redfield. The couple lived in Redfield, then on farms near Alpena and Hitchcock before returning back to Redfield. Later the family moved to Conde where Gloria began doing hairstyling, opening her own salon. While in Conde she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Methodist Church.

The family moved to Sheldon, MO for 7 years then returned to South Dakota, living in Bristol where Gloria worked at the nursing home. They later moved to the Sioux Falls area, making their latest home in Lennox. Gloria was employed at Walmart for many years. She enjoyed working there, greeting the customers and making new friends.

Gloria was a generous, caring person, always ready to help when someone was in need. She enjoyed traveling and taking vacations with the boys. She enjoyed camping, being outdoors, and especially tending to her flowers and garden. She loved decorating, making crafts, and attending craft shows. Most of all, she loved being with her family and friends. She was always on the road going somewhere. She lived life to its fullest.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 40 years, David, Lennox, two sons, Steven of Aberdeen and Brian of Sioux Falls, brothers John (Mary) Spicer, Wessington, Gary (Trude) Spicer, Huron, sister, Linda (Larry) Wegleitner, Huron, brothers-in-law Terry (Julia) Jones, Lennox and Kenny Jones, Lennox plus nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Elaine Spicer, sister, Joyce, and niece, Ashley.

Interment will be at a later date at Wessington Cemetery, Wessington, SD.
