Mary Louise Bishop, 85, passed away early Tuesday morning, January 11, 2022 at her residence.

Mary Lou was born March 29, 1936 in St. Joseph, Missouri, the daughter of the late Carter Mitchell and Helen (Schmidt) Mitchell.

She received her B.S. Degree from Central Missouri State College and her M.A. Degree from The University of Wyoming. She moved to the Muncie community in 1964. Mary Lou taught at Ball State University and was later a substitute teacher for the Muncie Community Schools. She was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed traveling and especially enjoyed her trips with family to Yellowstone, Estes Park, and the Outer Banks. Mary Lou was also involved in the local Republican party as a Precinct Committee leader. She enjoyed attending sporting events or watching her favorite teams and was always willing to provide assistance to the umpires/referees when needed.

Mary Lou is survived by her two children Cliff Bishop (Molly) and Kris Bishop; two granddaughters Abby and Caroline Bishop; numerous nieces and nephews, and her two pet dogs Stewie and Gabby.

She was preceded in death by her father Carter Mitchell; her mother Helen (Schmidt) Mitchell; her step-mother Agnes Mitchell; her loving husband, Dr. Welker Bishop, Jr., whom she married on May 26, 1962; and a sister Dorothy Mortensen.

Funeral Services for Mary Lou will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, January 17, 2022 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 900 West White River Blvd, Muncie, with Pastor Jerry O'Neal officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Cemetery.
