Obituary from flammfh.com:
Robert Keith Briggs, longtime resident of Eastern Idaho passed away on January 9, 2022 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Born on October 1, 1954 to Darrell B. Briggs and Barbara Keith Briggs of Rexburg, Idaho, Robert was a gifted musician, composer, and conductor of choral music. He had a beautiful tenor voice and felt equally comfortable singing in concert halls or care centers. His wife, Kathleen, was usually his accompanist. Bob, as he was known by most, was admired for his delightful sense of humor and he found great joy in life.
Robert completed a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Idaho in Moscow, a Master of Choral Music at Bowling Green State University and a Doctorate of Choral Studies degree at the University of Northern Colorado. Bob taught choir to countless students of all ages. With his wit and musical knowledge and skills, he greatly impacted the musical hearts and skills of students in the public schools in Thatcher, Arizona, Madison High School in Rexburg, Murray High School in Salt Lake City, Rigby High School in Rigby, Idaho, The University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Southwestern Michigan College in Dowagiac, Michigan and Dixie State University in St. George, Utah. He brought his great love of music to all he taught or with whom he performed.
Robert's doctoral dissertation was a valuable study of early hymns of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had a particularly strong love for hymns from all denominations. His family is fortunate to have a collection of over 260 new hymns he composed (both text and music).
As a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he served diligently in every responsibility to which he was called. This included devoting two years of his life to the people of Virginia.
After the Alzheimer's diagnoses, he once wrote, "I look forward to the day when many things I have forgotten will be returned to me. I consider it will be like having a large sizzling pan of popcorn (after not having enjoyed popcorn for some time) it will be far more exciting than remembering what popcorn tasted like the first time. It will be a most profound awakening of all of the senses; smell, hearing, touch, tasting and seeing."
Bob met Kathleen (Kathy) Jensen in high school and they were married in the Idaho Falls Temple in August of 1976.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, mother, and older brother, Randall. He is survived by his devoted wife, and his sons, Zachary (Elizabeth) of Orlando, Florida and Adam (Corrinne) of Neenah, Wisconsin and his brother, Hal (Leslie) of Richmond, Utah. He and Kathleen have been blessed with four beautiful grandchildren: Ian, Remi, Alister, and Corbin.
Prior to his departure, Bob wanted to share a life list that he lived by. This list truly sheds light into the life of this beautiful and benevolent man. Please take from it what you may and think of Bob fondly.
1. See as many waterfalls as you can. They are usually free, refreshing, and among God's most beautiful creations.
2. Take your children to the Eastern United States in the summer while they are still young enough to thrill to the magic of fireflies.
3. Don't take love for granted. When sharing love, don't require something in return.
4. Ice Cream will always be a welcome treat, Every living thing should have it, especially your dog.
5. Never stop looking for the Northern Lights. You'll never regret it when you finally see them for the first time.
6. Sing Handel's Messiah at least ten times in your life. It will make you a better person, (I promise) and a pretty good singer.
7. Let music, laughter, and peace live within you and be willing to share it always.
8. Marry for love and for all eternity.
9. Pray a lot. Expect answers.
10. Do it. Do it right. Do it right now. (Spencer W. Kimball)
The family wishes to extend great gratitude to the Gables of Ammon for their tender and devoted care to Bob the past four years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to memorial and scholarship funds that are being set up in his name at two high schools in Utah.
• Robert Briggs Memorial Scholarship, Farmington High School Choral Department: dsdgive.net
• Details on the other one (at Deseret Hills High School) will be made public once they are available.
Enjoy the popcorn, Bob!
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints, Woodruff Ward Chapel located at 1660 12th Street, Idaho Falls, Idaho 83404. Family will receive friends from 10:00-10:45 a.m. at the Woodruff Ward Chapel, prior to funeral services. Interment will be at the Burton Cemetery, Burton, Idaho.
