Thomas Alan Nelson 62, of Mount Airy, formerly of Lexington, passed away unexpectedly Friday, January 7, 2022 at his home. Tommy was born May 19, 1959, to Bob and Cile Nelson of Churchland and was of the Baptist Faith.
Tommy was preceded in death by his beloved mother Cile W. Nelson and sister Teresa Ann Nelson.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 2:00 PM in Churchland Baptist Church. A private interment will follow the service in Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will greet friends prior to the service from 12:30 – 1:30 PM at the church. Masks are required to attend the service and visitation.
Tommy began playing drums at the age of five and started his lifelong career at the age of 17. He played with several bands throughout his life, including the Fantastic Shuffle Band. Tommy was also employed at Olde Mill Music Store where he enjoyed helping his good friend, Rick Caudill in Mt. Airy.
Left to cherish Tommy's memory is his dad, Bob Nelson; his children, Sydney Cornatzer (Brandon), Robby Monahan, and his precious granddaughter, Raelynn Jane Cornatzer; two sisters, Tami Rothrock (David), Tracee Prince (Scott); six nephews, three nieces, one great-nephew, one great-niece, and a host of band members that were like family to him. He also leaves behind his little furry friend Poco.
The family requests memorials to be made to the Humane Society of donors choice and/or Churchland Baptist Church, 7516 S NC Hwy 150, Lexington, NC 27295.
