Wilma Jean Bennett Mason, age 87, originally from Freeburn, Kentucky, a resident of Harrogate, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at Middlesboro A.R.H. She was born on February 6, 1934 to the late Everett and Bertha Hackney Bennett.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Hollis Mason, whom she married July 17, 1959, brothers Everett Bennett Jr. and Millard Bennett, sister Reba Bennett Dotson and her husband James, brothers-in-law Allory, Hodge, James, & Lowell Mason, sister-in-law Jewell Mason Earls and her dear life-long friends Wee Wee Jude and Thelma Fannin.
Wilma was a wonderful lady who loved to travel, spend time with her family and friends, and raise her beloved Bassett Hounds - many of which she had throughout the years. She was a hard worker who entered the work force right after graduating from Phelps High School in 1953, moved to Dayton, Ohio for many years, and then later home became Harrogate, TN. She worked at Kroger in Middlesboro for 24 years and retired at the age of 62. After retiring, she came back home quite often and enjoyed visiting the home place on Power House Hill. Wilma enjoyed attending Red Oak Church when she was still driving. She remained feisty and independent up until the last couple of months of her life. She was loved and will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to have known her.
Left to cherish her memory, sisters Betty Lou Daugherty and husband Lonnie Jr., Margie Morrow and husband Ronnie, Pauline Prater and her late husband Worley Prater, Thelma Reese and her late husband Kenneth Reese, special sister-in-law Geneva Mason and her late husband Hodge, very special friend, and neighbor whom Wilma thought of like a sister, Carolyn Murphy and her late husband Tommy. She had a host of many wonderful nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Wilma had a special niece that was like her daughter and travel buddy, Kim Daugherty Fields who was always there to help her.
