He began his career with the Alabama Game, Fish and Seafoods Division in 1946 as a "Game Warden". Edward would ultimately be promoted to the highest rank within the Law Enforcement Section as the "Chief of Enforcement" in 1963. Then "Chief Farish" was the driving force in the modernization of the Law Enforcement Section. He was responsible for the State Peace Officer designation being broadened to accept all Conservation Enforcement Officers. Edward remained the Chief of Enforcement until 1977 and during his 30 plus year career he spearheaded many positive changes to the Conservation Officers in the state.
Edward raised his family in Montgomery, Alabama and was a longtime deacon with his church, Taylor Road Baptist (Normandale Baptist Church), often leading Sunday school. Upon retiring from the State, he spent his time enjoying family, friends, traveling, church and keeping himself busy with an occasional gun show. As an avid hunter he enjoyed many hours in the woods, he specially liked turkey calling for his friends and family.
