Howard C. Ellis, 78, of Elyria, entered into rest Sunday, January 9, 2022 at University Hospital in Elyria.

He was born April 23, 1943 in Washington, DC, and has lived in Elyria for 54 years, coming from District Heights, MD. Howard graduated Valedictorian from Dematha High School in Hyattsville, MD, class of 1961. He then graduated with a Master's degree in History from the University of Maryland. He was a College Professor of US History at Lorain County Community College for 30 years retiring in 1993. His hobbies included traveling to Arizona and New Mexico and he loved the Native American culture. He was an American Civil War buff and lecturer. He loved old movies and black and white "serials" and was a member of the Black River Stamp Club in Elyria.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years Clara J. (nee Wilkins) Ellis, sisters-in-law Ann Powers and Mary Sue (Gary) Davis, nephews Kevin Davis and Lance (Schanta) Davis, great- nephews Jace, Bray, and Brax; and god-children Mike Schneck and Holli Carpenter, also beloved by cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Howard M. and Marian M. (nee Pumphrey) Ellis.

All services will be private and a memorial service will be held at a later date in Arkansas. Memorial contributions may be made to either St. Jude Catholic Church, 590 Poplar St., Elyria, Oh. 44035 or Friendship APL, 8303 Murray Ridge Rd., Elyria, Ohio 44035.
