Charles "Charlie" A. James, Jr., 96, of Boonville passed away on Monday, January 10, 2021 at Golden Living Center in Newburgh. Charlie was born in Heilman, IN on December 2, 1925 to the late Charley "Pop" A., Sr. and Claira (Phillips) James.


He married the love of his life Beatrice "Bea" James on May 11, 1956. He was a member of Heilman Mt. Olive General Baptist Church. Charlie started out building cabinets in his basement and worked his way up to being self-employed and owning his own construction company. He loved life on the farm and also enjoyed hunting, deep sea fishing and horseback riding.


Charlie is preceded in death by his wife Bea; sons, Terry Alan James and Stephen Michael (Alita) James; 13 siblings; son-in-law David Burgett; brother-in-law Yoonsik Lee; sister-in-law Joyce James.


He is survived by his children, Rick (Jenifer) and Curtis James; daughters, Yvonne Ash (Gary), Linda James-Suver (Jerry) and Sarah Burgett; grandchildren, Jason, Nicholas, Michael, Blake, Dexter, Tara, Joan, Terry Kay, Teya, Amy, Stephen and Cynthia. Charlie is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren; siblings, Joyce Lee, Betty Rhoades (Franklin), Ronald James.


Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 15, 2021. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 14, 2021 and will continue from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at Garrison Chapel Cemetery in Heilman IN. Published in Courier Press on Jan. 12, 2022.
