Claudia Rae Lawrence Smith, devoted wife, mother and grandmother peacefully returned to her Heavenly Father the morning of May 15, 2021 surrounded by family. She was an example of faith and determination despite the many challenges she faced, this faith has always been a great strength to her family and especially her kids while she was a single parent.
Claudia was born on June 14, 1956 in Salt Lake City, UT to Warren Scott Lawrence and Dorathy Ida Nordberg. She graduated from Jordan High School in 1974. From a young age she learned the value of hard work from "teasing" the weeds to cleaning the house. Her work ethic supported her family through a cleaning business and as the office manager of various dental offices. Through her example her kids were able to learn the value of working hard. She also knew there was a time for play. Claudia loved to play games with her siblings in the chicken coupe, loved to go dancing with her friends and playing basketball with her boys. Her love of life was contagious, she loved to laugh and her smile would light up any room.
She was lucky enough to marry the love of her life, Richard Smith on October 27, 1995. She loved spending time with him and the whole family. She especially loved to travel with her sweetheart, they were blessed to be able to see and experience many wonderful places. Their vacations, especially to her mom's house served as a way to recharge her vigor for life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren Scott Lawrence and Dorathy Ida Nordberg; brother David Lawrence; sister-in-law, Maida Lawrence. She is survived by husband Richard; children, Brad West, Brent (Heather) West, Byron (Jennifer) West, Brittany (Aaron) Roberts; stepchildren, A. Kristen (Jeremy) Stout, Kyle (Janel) Smith, Kade (Jasmine) Smith, Kara (Greg) Simmons; 24 grandchildren; siblings, Loretta Lawrence, Gail (Vern) Dennis, C.J. (Sherrie) Lawrence, Rod Lawrence, Judy (Arthur) Hunter, Sid (Trudie) Lawrence.
Funeral services will be held Thursday May 20, 2021 at 11:00 am at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley Chapel 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 South). A viewing will be held Wednesday May 19, 2021 from 6-8:00 pm at the same location. Interment Utah Veterans Memorial Park.
