OBITUARY
Nancy Ann McCarley King
SEPTEMBER 20, 1933 – JANUARY 10, 2022

Dunbar Funeral Home (Devine)
Nancy Ann McCarley King, age 88 passed peacefully on January 10, 2022 at her home with her daughters at her side. Nancy was the daughter of the late James Monroe and Nannie Mae McCarley of Anderson, S.C. She graduated from Columbia High School and attended the University of SC where she was a member of the Baptist Student Union. She married Bert King at 19 years of age who became her life-long husband for 68 years. She loved history and began her career working in advertising for the State Newspaper and later enjoyed volunteering at the Columbia Historic Society, as a guide (docent) dressing up in past periods of time and sharing the story of our state. She adored her girlfriends and enjoyed being a part of the Columbia Study Group for more that 40 years, the Ladies Book Club for 18 plus years, having fellowship with friends in her Lunch Club and traveling to a variety of places. She loved to read and share her gift of expression and enthusiasm which was admired by all that heard her retell any story whether, historical or fictional. In her senior years she pursued her dream of modeling. She worked for Millie Lewis Modeling and enjoyed wearing beautiful clothes and jewelry on the runway. This was one of the many highlights of her life. She was an elegant, self-confident woman with an inner beauty and sweet heart. Nancy was very active in her church, Kilbourne Park Baptist, organizing fabulous trips and programs for the Joy Club "Just Older Youth", president of her Sunday School class, participating in the WMU, chairwoman of the decorating committee, and participating in the prayer ministry. She loved to play games like "Chicken Foot" with her church friends and cards, "Shanghi and Canassta" with her girlfriends. Nancy loved to laugh and have fun and was always looking for a reason to have a party.

Mrs. King, Nana, had a great love for her family. Being an only child and marrying into a big family gave her many brothers and sisters. She had a compassionate heart for her family and other people. She was a loving, faithful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother; always thinking of ways to have fun or celebrate life. She suggested that her children and grandchildren always had a program when the family got together. Although this may have been a chore for some, it made each event memorial for the family and this legacy will continue.

She is survived by her devoted daughters, Kathy (Jeff) Peckham and Donna (Jeff) DuPre; grandsons Andrew (Hannah) Peckham, Sarah Nan (Javier) DuPre, and Jonathan Peckham; great granddaughters Emma Caroline and Lainey Peckham. She was predeceased by her husband Bert King.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Kilbourne Park Baptist Church of Columbia, SC. Mrs. King was a woman of great faith and strength, and has left a lasting legacy. The family would also like to convey a special thank you to all who have cared for Mama, sent cards, meals and prayed fervently for her and the family over the years.

Dunbar Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements. The memorial service will be at Kilbourne Park Baptist Church, 4205 Kilbourne Road at 11:00 am, on Thursday, January 13, 2022. The family will receive visitors in the church sanctuary after the service. Thank you for your love and prayers.
