After attending the former Central High School in Washington, DC, Gil served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He attended the University of Maryland, College Park where he graduated with a degree in Agriculture.
Gil was formerly married to the late Mary Graff Allen for 24 years. They lived in Germantown, Maryland during that time; raising two children. Gil was past president of the Germantown Lions Club.
Gil owned Annapolis Paint Company in Annapolis, Maryland for 25 years, and leaves behind a large community of former colleagues, business associates, and friends. Gil was devoted to community service and served as Exalted Ruler of the Annapolis Elks Lodge and President of the Annapolis Kiwanis Club. During his career, he also worked in sales for Bruning Paint and Sherwin Williams.
Gil enjoyed fishing, crabbing, and boating on the Chesapeake Bay and was a lifelong fan of the Washington Football Team. He was also a Navy Football fan and could be seen in the stands at nearly all home games. Gil had a wicked sense of humor, frequently relaying colorful stories about his time growing up and working on his family's dairy farm. Most of all, Gil enjoyed spending time with his family.
Gil leaves behind his wife, two children, four great grandchildren and a host of loving friends and blended family who will miss him dearly.
