Edward was a keen flyer, his father cleared trees at their country estate when they lived at Chislehurst so Edward could land his planes there.
Edward was testing his new plane, a De havilland Two seater Moth with his good friend Edward Somerset. The plane had dual controls. It is not known who was flying at the time of the accident.
They lost control and the plane nose dived into a crash that killed both men.
