Born in Columbus, Georgia on July 29, 1942, the daughter of Lt. Col. Frank L. Lillyman and Jane Beebe Lillyman. As an army brat, she lived in nearly every Army base south of the Mason Dixon line, as well as Verona, Italy where she attended St. George's International School in Switzerland. Beloved wife for 47 years of the late Francis P. Hyland; sister of the late Jean Melamed; mother of Deborah Hyland and Peggy Hyland (Alex); aunt to John Gledhill (Michelle), Kari Ann Kinkey (Charles), Deanna Hayward (Billy), Robert Hyland Jr., and great aunt to Carter, Ryan Katie, Michael, and Nathan.
Susan was a graduate of Oceanside High School, Long Island, NY; Wesleyan College in Macon, GA; and the University of Maryland where she received her Master's Degree. She was Chief of Libraries for the National Security Agency and Director of Online Library Services at the American Public University System (APUS).
