Born in Morrowville, Kansas, Keith was raised in Washington, Kansas and spent summers on his grandparents' farm. He was a proud graduate of the University of Kansas, where he was a member of Delta Chi Fraternity and ROTC. After his college graduation, he served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

In 1960 Keith married Betty Capestrain, and together they had four children. He spent most of his distinguished career working for General Electric in the Lighting Business, which took his family from Missouri, to Kansas, and twice to Ohio and California.

A man of integrity, loyalty, and generosity, Keith will be dearly missed by his wife Betty, his son Keith Young Jr. and wife Jackie Larson, his daughter Sarah Frazier and husband Dr. Lewis Frazier Jr., and grandchildren Lewis Frazier III and Anna Frazier, son-in-law Fred Eckstein and grandchildren Dr. Sarah Eckstein and David Eckstein. Keith is predeceased by his daughter, Susan Eckstein and his son, John Young.
