Dr. Tammy Marie Gilbert, age 45, died on Monday, January 3, 2022, at her residence in Mandeville, LA. She was a native of Arabi, LA.

She was the beloved daughter of Suzanne "Suzy" Bourgeois Gilbert and the late Thomas E. Gilbert.

She is survived by her two devoted and loving brothers - Thomas Jr. (Sicily) and Kevin and nephew Blaine Gilbert and niece Cassidy Gilbert and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Tammy was the granddaughter of the late Price T. and Alvira Gilbert and the late Drauzin and Doris Dauterive Bourgeois.

Tammy lived with and battled Systemic Scleroderma (a vengeful autoimmune disease) for over 23 years. This disease brings many complications from interstitial lung disease, pulmonary lung disease, countless GI issues, and much body pain.

Tammy pushed thru her illness and was able to practice as a Physical Therapist for 20 years. She worked at many clinics in the metropolitan area, where she brought hope and pain relief to so many of her patients. She continued to pursue all avenues to relieve others pain in her quest for knowledge to find ways to help others.

Dr. Gilbert graduated valedictorian from Archbishop Hannan High School in Meraux, LA, summa cum laude from LSU with a Bachelor of Science/Kinesiology, a master's degree in physical therapy from Mount St. Mary's College in Los Angeles, CA, and a Doctor of PT from Northeastern University in Boston, MA.

ln addition, she was Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy and received Certification as a Therapeutic Pain Specialist from The International Spine and Pain Institute.

Beside her passion for physical therapy, Tammy loved the ballet from childhood. Although life took her away from dance at times, she always returned to the ballet bar, even taking on-line classes last year. At Christmas time she and her mom would attend the Russian version of The Nutcracker.

In addition, there was a year when she studied and performed belly dancing, fun and fitness together.

Tammy's happy place was Florida and Alvin's lsland shopping.

Her bright smile, her sweetness, courage and zest for life in overcoming many challenges will be missed by her family and friends.

Private funeral services were held, and interment was at St. Bernard Memorial Garden Cemetery where she was laid to eternal rest with her loving father.
