Author Richard F. Quinn, 59, of San Clemente, Calif., and formerly of Faribault, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 1995, at his home. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday from the Parker Kohl Funeral Home, Faribault, with the Rev. Mr. William Erpenbach, deacon of the Immaculate Conception Church, officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services.

Richard Foley Quinn, the son of Thomas Henry and Elinor (Foley) Quinn, was born Feb. 5, 1936, in Faribault. He gained notoriety and acclaim for his best selling book "Left For Dead." As a guest on radio and television talk shows nationwide, Quinn told audiences about his failed coronary bypass in 1978 and his subsequent discovery of the healing power of cayenne red pepper and other herbs for the heart. Quinn studied journalism with an advertising emphasis at the University of Minnesota and ran his own direct marketing agency for many years. After 30 years as a writer, he went into manufacturing in 1988 to share the herbal formulas he had developed to control his own heart disease. In 1992, Quinn left the company to write "Left For Dead" and spread the word about how herbal medicine kept him alive.

He is survived by his brother, Thomas Quinn of Princeton, J.J.; two sisters, Sally Hansen and Diane Dapper, both of Faribault; his children, Kelly Quinn of San Clemente, Calif., Shannon Quinn of Carlsbad, Calif., Foley Quinn of Roberts, Wis., Devin Quinn of Somerset, Wis., and Colin Quinn of Orlando, Fla.; their mother, Elaine Quinn of Somerset, Wis.; and his second wife, Paula Quinn, of Minneapolis.
