Obituary for Jimmie Lee Richards Sr.

Jimmie (Jim) Lee Richards, Sr., 77, went to be with our Lord Thursday, December 16th at Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV.

Jim was born on May 7, 1944 in Davey, WV.

He was one of three sons to the late Homer W. Richards Sr. and Nannie Richards.

He is survived by his daughter Theresa "Richards" Hockman, son Jimmie Richards Jr. and wife Donna, son David Richards, brother Homer W. Richards Jr. and wife Linda, brother Randal R. Richards and wife Elaine, son-in-law "Dougie" Hilliard, six grandchildren, one great grandchild, and his beloved dogs.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, wife Delores S. Richards, son Paul D. Richards, daughter Selena R. Hilliard, son-in-law Donnie J. Hockman, and grandson Jimmie L. Richards III.

Jim grew up in Davey, WV where he also met the love of his life, Delores. He worked at General Motors, where he retired after 30 years. After living in Michigan, Jimmie and Delores later decided to settle in Inwood, WV where they would raise their beautiful family.

Anyone who knew Jim would say that he was the hardest of workers. Jim built their beautiful home from the ground up, and would often help his family and friends with all types of improvements to theirs; Jim always had clever ways and ideas for fixing most anything. Jim enjoyed being outdoors and you would most likely find him mowing his lawn (he always had a fresh cut yard), fishing with his sons and grandsons, or rocking in his chair on his large front porch. Jim also enjoyed making homemade gifts, and recently made hanging bird feeders out of repurposed glass.

Jim would do anything he could for anyone; it didn't matter if you were family, a friend, or a stranger. He was dedicated to his family and they were his and Delores' proudest achievement. Jim raised them to love and cherish each other, to be welcoming, and to look out for one another. He was truly a warm and gentle soul.

His family will miss his genuine heart, smile and laugh, his wisdom, his stories, his sense of humor and sarcasm, and even his political talks. 2021 was a difficult year for Jim due to losing his wife Delores on March 2nd. His family finds comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with the love of his life, his daughter, and other family members whom he talked about often and missed dearly.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers you would donate to St. Jude Children's Hospital.

A Celebration of Life for Jim will be held at Inwood Family Worship Center on April 30, 2022 at 2:00 PM.
