He was born in 1936 to Robert and Veta Boatman in Eau Claire, Wis. He grew up in the Palisade area and lived most of his life in Hill City. On July 27, 1956, he married Mary E. Crandall at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hill City. He was the owner/operator of "Bob's Sibley Plaza Gulf" service station, "Bob's Excavation and Construction" and then later worked in brick masonry for several years. He served many years with the Hill City Volunteer Fire Department and his life revolved around his fishing, hunting, gardening and wood crafting.
Funeral services were held Dec. 19 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hill City with the Rev. William Zeige officiating. Burial will be in the Macville Cemetery in Macville Township.
He is survived by his children, Wesley, (Emmy Lou) Boatman of Cohasset; Wanda (Steven) Nelson, Sauk Centre; Jackie (Ben, Jr.) Lewis; Grand Rapids; sister, Kathleen (Gary) Cavallin, Two Harbors; grandchildren, Jessica, Sean, Kori, Christopher, Kayla and Brandon. He was preceded in death by his parents and by an infant daughter, Debra Diane Boatman, in 1957.
