Veteran of the Spanish-American War and World War I. Colonel.Col. Walter Unversaw son of Henry Clay and Rose Ward Unversaw.
He Enlisted in the Indiana National Guard in 1894 and served 3 yrs and gained rank of quartermaster Sgt. of the old 2nd ind national guard that later became the 152nd Infantry Regt.And was in the Spanish American War.
In WW 1 he was a Major and later a Leutinant Col. in comand of a battalion of 139th field Artilary Regt in France, he was a student with Theodore Rosevelt jr. He was comander of the Veterans of the Spanish American War in 1922 and later the Comander of the Veterans of WW 1 organization he was also a lifelong member of the American Legion and the Red Cross. Also he was in charge of the Civil Defense during WW 2 in Kokomo Indiana. Mr Unversaw was in Politics and ran for several offices, he was a Graduate of Franklin Comunity Schools and Franklin College in which he was an alumni.
On Dec. 2,1896 he married to Anna Cooper of Danville Ind. she died Oct 24,1952 to this union was born Gertrude,Ernestine and Arthur Unversaw.
