Ira Paul Walser, 82, of Linwood Southmont Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Jersey Baptist Church, where he was a member, by Dr. Michael Collier and the Rev. Morris Hollifield. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Walser was born July 12, 1925, in Rowan County to Ira Walser and Mary Lindsay Alley Walser. He was a supervisor at North Carolina Finishing Co., where he had been employed for 50 years before retirement. He had served his church as a past deacon, Sunday school teacher and member of the senior choir. He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II in the South Pacific. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Lil Thomas, Claudia James and Helen Coleman.

Surviving are his wife, Bobbie Sharpe Walser of the home; two sons, Charles Walser and his wife, Mary, of Greensboro and Michael Walser and his wife, Janet, of Faith; four grandchildren, Margaret Walser, Hannah Walser, Karen Humphrey and her husband, Kyle, and Katie Little and her husband, Chris; a great-grandchild, Deacon Humphrey; four brothers, Hugh Walser and his wife, Jessie Sue, of Taylors, S.C., Joe Walser and his wife, Helen, of Salisbury, Wayne Walser and his wife, Vickie, of Churchland, Al Walser and his wife, Barbara, of Faith; and two sisters, Ann Link of Welcome and Marion Owen and her husband, J.H., of Spencer.
