Maurice Eugene "Gene" Edwards, 81, of Springfield, Missouri, formerly of Lebanon, Missouri, died in Cox South Hospital, Springfield. He was born July 10, 1926, to Twyman and Ruth Wagoner Edwards in Lebanon. He was married to Norma Jean Skelton November 1948.

Gene retired in 1990 from the Bursar Office and as Secretary of the Board of Regents at Missouri State University. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Springfield.

Those preceding him in death are his parents; on sister, Markie Phippenney; and one daughter, Cheryl Lynn Edwards.

Survivors include wife Jeannie, of the home; one son, Dana Edwards and his wife Sharon, of Webster Grove, Missouri; three grandchildren, John, Jacob and Jennifer Edwards; one brother, John Ed Edwards and his wife Irene of Simi, Calif.; one sister, Beth Johnson, or Moraga, Calif.; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held, Thursday, December 27, 2007 in Shadel's Colonial Chapel, Lebanon.
