Ralph E. Hammond, of Midland, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 23, 2006. He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and graduated with honors from The University of Minnesota with both a bachelors and masters degree in electrical engineering. He worked for Carter Oil Company as district engineer in St. Elmo, Illinois before being promoted to division production manager in Mattoon, Illinois. Carter Oil Company merged with Humble which later became EXXON. Ralph was named Central Division Production Manager for EXXON in Tulsa and later Oklahoma City prior to moving to Midland as operations manager. After retiring from EXXON he became a petroleum consultant and independent oil operator until shortly before his death. Ralph was a long time member of the API and SPE, and had been active in the Oklahoma Petroleum Council and the Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association. He was a member of the Petroleum Club and the First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife Mary; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Dr. Peter Clark of Tuscaloosa, AL; and Debbie and Mark Bartelsmeyer of Houston, TX; two grandchildren and their spouses, Dr. John Clark and Kelly of Hattiesburg, MS; and Julie and Roger Thomas of Tuscaloosa, AL; also five great-grandchildren.

He was a loving husband and father and will be long remembered as a gentleman who exhibited kindness to all. The family extends special thanks to Dr. Gregory Bartha, nurse Christine Bebeebe, caregiver, Yolanda Jimenez, and the many wonderful people from Hospice.

Graveside services have been scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 25, 2006 at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Hospice of Midland, P.O. Box 2621, Midland, Texas 79702, or the charity of ones choice.
