Elva Irene "Granny" Wright, 97, of Amarillo died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Lifeway Fellowship Baptist Church with Dr. Randy Davis officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Coulter Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter St.

Granny was born Dec. 5, 1910, in Marshall, Okla. At age 18, she moved to Enid, Okla., where she began training to be an RN. She was selected to go to Arkansas City, Kan., to complete her training and later was superintendent of training.

In 1938, she moved to Woodward, Okla., as head surgical nurse. Her career in nursing spanned more than 40 years until her retirement at age 84 from Bivins Memorial Nursing Home. She actually retired several times, but was always enticed back to the career she loved.

She married Henry Wright on Dec. 27, 1939. Together they had three daughters, Janice Flaherty and husband Mike of Amarillo, Barbara McAllister of Alpharetta, Ga., and Ann Boggs and husband James of Moore, Okla.

She had eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren whom she loved and adored, as they loved her. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and "GiGi" to her family. She made each one feel special and looked forward to their visits. She loved her church family and many lifelong friends.

She was privileged and thrilled to be chosen for the Jan Werner Adult Day Care calendar for December 2008. She never met a stranger as she loved to talk. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Whit Walker and Dee Dee Johnson for the wonderful care they gave to our mother.

Granny's words of wisdom were: "Eat anything you want. Stay active. Stay close to the Lord."

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Jan Werner Adult Day Care, 3108 S. Fillmore St., Amarillo, TX 79110.

Viewing will begin at noon today at the funeral home on Coulter Street.
