Peggy Mae (Ford) Wagner, 82, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, went to heaven Saturday, December 11, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Peggy, a life-time resident of Staunton, was born on October 12, 1939, a daughter of the late Robert Hankins and Marie (Clemmer) Ford.

From an early age, Peggy was fiercely independent, resilient, and devoted. As a young mother, she worked from home, caring for four young children and her grandmother. She worked at J.C. Penney's and Steve and Barry's in the Staunton Mall before retiring from DuPont in Waynesboro after eighteen years of service.

Peggy enjoyed many years of dancing, amusement parks and camping. She became an avid treasure hunter, frequenting yard sales and Goodwill stores and proudly displaying PACRAT on her license plate. She was an animal lover and took care of a variety of stray animals.

Peggy loved holiday decorations and celebrations, making many lasting memories for her family. She was known for her elaborate costumes and her affinity for all things Halloween.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Curtis "Tate" Wagner and her partner of twenty-three years, Gary C. Hunt.

Surviving are her loving daughters, Kim Gaunce and husband, Bob, Delaina "Dede" Norder and husband, Jeff and her loving son, Dwayne Wagner and fiancé, Julie Shifflett.

She was affectionately known as "Nina" to her six grandchildren, Robert Matthew Gaunce and wife, Susan, Nicholas Tate Norder, Kristyn Nicole Norder, Jonathan Ford Norder and girlfriend, Alina Sowder, Ashley Nicole Long and husband, Chad, and Zachary Tate Wagner and girlfriend, Bree Gore, and to her five great-grandchildren, Christopher, Naomi, and Jeremiah Gaunce, Everleigh Long, and Ivy Norder.

A private graveside service has been planned.

The family would like to express a special "Thank you" to Kim Casey of Staunton, Jay and Vaunda Brown of Harrisonburg and Sentara Hospice for the loving and compassionate care of our mother.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wildlife Center of Virginia, Post Office Box 1557, Waynesboro, Virginia 22980 or the Cat's Cradle, 124 South Main Street, Harrisonburg, Virginia 22801.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
