COLORADO CITY - Don Denson, 71, passed away at the Mitchell County Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer on January 8, 2022.

Don was born at the old Root Memorial Hospital of Colorado City on November 26, 1950, to parents Pat and Eloise Keel Denson.

Don spent the majority of his life living and loving Mitchell County. He graduated from Colorado High in 1969, and a short time later on July 27, 1973 married the love of his life, Miss Shirley Laughlin, then spent 48 years together raising a family. He worked most of his life as a Park Ranger until his retirement in 2011, which he said was to help his dad on the farm, but secretly could have been to devote as much of his time as he could to his precious granddaughters. He believed in hard work and providing for his family. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, drinking coffee and "shooting the bull." There wouldn't be a dry day except for Sunday that you wouldn't find him heading out to the farm with his sidekick Buddy, and if you were looking for a more dedicated grandfather you couldn't find one as he made it to every event his granddaughters were in. Don was a friend to many and a great inspiration to his family who will cherish many great memories for years to come.

Don is survived by his wife, Shirley Denson of Colorado City; by a son, Patrick Neal Denson and wife Ashley of San Angelo; by a daughter, Lori Yvonne Molina and husband Manuel Molina III of Colorado City; and by granddaughters Raigyn and Morgan Molina of Colorado City. Also surviving is a brother, Billy Jack Denson and wife Lavon of Corsicana; and a sister, Patricia Denson of Colorado City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pat and Eloise Denson; and by his faithful dog, Buddy.

A graveside service for Don will be on Wednesday, Jan 12th at 2 p.m. in the Colorado City Cemetery with Alvis Fisher officiating. The family will be present for a visitation on Tuesday, January 11th from 6-8 at Kiker Seale Funeral Home.
