Obituary Apr 23, 1920 – J. F. Dixon died at his home two miles southwest of town Monday afternoon about 5 o'clock, after an illness of several months duration resulting from a nervous break down. Mr Dixon was born and reared in this township and at the time of his death was about 62 years old. Mr Dixon was one among the best citizens this county ever produced; he was kind to all, loyal to his friends and the principals of right and helpful to his neighbors in every way that it was possible for him to be. He is survived by his wife and several children. The body was laid to rest in the Combs Cemetery Tuesday afternoon, Eld. Mose Cooper conducting the funeral services. - Melbourne Times, Melbourne, Arkansas.

Tonkey was an excellent fiddle player and was mentioned in the Silas Turnbo writings of early pioneers. Some of Tonkey's children were also musically talented, as were many people in Izard and surrounding counties. He played his fiddle at the Centenniel celebrations held in the county. He was a writer of comical articles for the county newspaper. Tonkey was a tall slender man who wore a narrow brim hat. He was a jovial and helpful neighbor, and lived in the homeplace built by his father. He married Mary Huldah Hargis after his wife's decease in 1905, and her husband's decease in 1908.
