Shirley Faye Robinson, age 85 of Martinsville, gained her angel wings on Friday, January 7, 2022, at 10:42 am with her loving family by her side and in the comfort of her own home. She was the youngest of three daughters born to the late Noble Cecil and Nelva Catherine (Frye) Mundy. Shirley's life began on Wednesday, September 9, 1936, in Baker Township, Morgan County, Indiana.
Shirley spent her younger years in Stinesville, Indiana, before moving to Indianapolis as a teenager. She graduated from Washington High School with the class of 1954 and moved to Morgan County that same year. On December 21, 1956, she married the love of her life, William E. "Bill" Robinson at the Mooresville Christian Church. Bill and Shirley lived in Centerton nearly all their married life where they were members of the Centerton Christian Church, aka Abounding Grace Worship Center, raised their family and Shirley worked at the elementary school. She was an extraordinary mother, wife and grandmother who took pride in her home and adored her family. Though she worked various jobs over the years, she was sure to accept only those careers that would allow her to be home with her children. She had worked for JD Adams in Indianapolis as a time clerk, Kroger in Mooresville as a cashier and several years as a cook at the Centerton Elementary School.
Shirley loved life, especially the one she and Bill created! Aside from sharing sixty-five years of marriage and a beautiful family, the two spent over twenty-five years 'wintering' in Florida, most of which was spent in Port Richey, and they traveled across the continental US and Alaska by RV. She absolutely loved time spent with her family playing board and card games, shopping, especially for shoes, and traveling. She had also been a dedicated member of her 'Ladies Card Club' for many years, meeting weekly to play euchre.
Shirley will be remembered fondly and deeply missed by her family and friends including her soulmate, Bill Robinson of Martinsville; twin-daughters, Shelly (husband, Robbie) Stephey and Kelly Meaney both of Martinsville; one son, Philip Robinson of Martinsville; two sisters, whom she was particularly close, Norma Williams of Avon, IN, and Mary Lou Little of North Vernon, IN; seven beloved grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
Along with her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by one grandson, Andrew Gray in 2002, and a son-in-law, Craig Meaney in 2017.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, January 11th from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center. Rev. Ken Hayden will conduct a service celebrating Shirley's life immediately following the visitation at 1:00 PM at the funeral home and she will be laid to rest following the service in Centerton Cemetery. The family has requested that all visitors wear a facial covering while in the funeral home.
