Charles Browning "C. B." Roper, 89, of Franklin, NC, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2021.

He was born April 19, 1932 in Macon County to the late Clingman and Clemmie Rosetta Rowland Roper.

Mr. Roper had worked for Franklin Frozen Foods and Blaylock Meat Company. He was a honeybee keeper, he loved to walk in the woods, loved to cut firewood, loved family, and loved the Oakdale Baptist Church where he was a deacon for 40 years. He was known as the "Mayor" of Burningtown for over 60 years.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marilyn Rebecca Collier Roper; daughter, Katrina Ann Roper Clark (Michael) of Franklin, NC; son, Charles Michael Roper of Franklin, NC; and grandson, Chris Clark.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Bertha Stewart and Cora Queen; half-sisters, Ethel Welch and Maude Queen; brothers, R. L. Roper and Shirley Darrel Roper; half-brothers, Carol Rowland, Bronce Roper, T. C. Roper and Dalton Rowland.

A funeral service will be held Friday, December 31, 2021 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home, with Rev. Gary McCoy, Rev. Johnny Raby and Rev. Charles Roper officiating. Burial will be in Roper Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 pm, prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Michael Shuler, Henry Rowland, Curly Rowland, Buddy Mathis, Jamie Mathis and Paul Higdon. Honorary pallbearers are Burningtown Iotla Fire Department, Ronnie Roper and Keith Henry.
