Thomas Harold "Hal" Evans, Jr., age 70 of Murfreesboro, Tennessee passed away Friday December 24, 2021, at home with his wife Antonia Gipson Evans. Hal, as he loved to be called, was a native of North Carolina, and a son of the late, Thomas Harold and Cornelia Raley Evans, Sr. He was also preceded in death by an uncle, Joe Raley; a cousin, Betty Ann Salle; and a nephew, Michael Thomas Schexnayder.

In his youth, Hal was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and earned his Eagle Scout badge by doing what he would come to need, caring for people at the end stages of their life. Hal also loved the outdoors and before he became ill, he would often go into the woods and walk through them, listen to the birds, and watch the flow of the Stones River. He once said, as he does so often, it was always a new experience because you would never see the same thing twice.

Hal was a graduate of East Carolina University and his first job after graduating was with Male Sportswear. He continued his career in sales, both outside and retail. He worked in sales as well as in management during his career with companies such as Male Sportswear, Circuit City, Target, Dollar General, Sav-On Office Supplies and Sears Corporation where he retired in 2015.

Hal had a six year long battle with congestive heart failure which overtook him in the early morning of December 24, 2021. He leaves to celebrate his life, his best friend of 22 years and wife of 20 years, Antonia (Toni) Gipson Evans; his daughter, Lauren Evans Kuet (Ken) of Nashville, TN; a step daughter, Dr. Kimkinyona Dale of Memphis, TN; step son, James Moore of Pikeville, TN; two grandsons, Jack (Xiao Ping) and Andrew (Kai Ping) Kuet, both of Nashville, TN; and his step grandson, Christian Lane, of Nashville, TN; also celebrating his life is his brother, William "Bill" Raley Evans (Denice); and his sister, Margaret "Meg" Evans Schexnayder (Paul), both of Charlotte, NC; and in laws, Tracy Scott of Chicago, IL; Tommy Gipson (Tracey) of Shelbyville, TN; Wanda Gipson of Nashville, TN; and Floyd Gipson and Janice Cowans of Springfield, IL; cousins celebrating his life are Wiley Rogerson and Madge Rogerson Partin of Robersonville, NC; nephews and nieces, celebrating the life of this wonderful man is Justin and Cody Evans; John Paul and Adam Schexnayder, Stephanie (Kendre) Richards, Dwight Rowe, and many others too numerous to list. He had two friends in particular that he considered to be like a brother and sister to him, Bryan Kobylik and Mary Anne Kobylik.

Hal was a person that never met a stranger and was always, always willing to help where he could.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Woodfin Funeral Chapels and an online guestbook is available for the Evans family at www.woodfinchapel.com. Memorials in memory of Hal may be made in his name to the American Heart Association.
